Digital
into the future

We work together competently and creatively to make our museum fit for the future. Through digitalization, we are mastering sustainability and inclusion in particular. We are creating an open network whose communication is based on an exchange of knowledge and ideas.
Digital is fun!

Guidelines

Four guidelines form the basis of our digital activities:

  • Digital competence: We are open to new digital formats and experiment with them. We acquire the necessary know-how for this. Our handling of information and the production and distribution of digital media is competent and critical, and the use of software and hardware is efficient and secure. We continuously use and optimize our digital communication in order to work more efficiently internally and offer users the best possible service externally.
  • Reducing barriers: We are gradually removing analog barriers through digital media in order to offer as many people as possible access to the content of our museum.
  • Network: We use digital tools to network researchers and support them by providing as much data as possible.
  • Sustainability: When implementing our digital strategy, the aspect of sustainability in accordance with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations is important to us, with Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) taking center stage. We use resources sparingly and strive for long-term solutions.

Fields of action

Digital transformation is a cross-cutting task for our museum and therefore affects all areas of work, which we have divided into the following eight fields of action:

  • General: Internal work processes affecting all employees.
  • Curating/Science: Responsible for the content of the collection and exhibition areas of archaeology, Baroque and early modern times and the 19th century to the present day.
  • Public relations: Press relations, public relations, marketing.
  • Restoration/conservation: Restoration and conservation of the collection.
  • Collection: Collection management with inventory.
  • Service: cash desk, visitor service, bookings.
  • Education: museum education, media in the exhibition, inclusion.
  • Administration: administrative activities.

To make our vision a reality, we have defined strategic goals for the fields of action, which will be achieved through specific measures. We are continuously working on our digital strategy, as digitalization is a dynamic process.

Our digital strategy was developed as part of the kultur.digital.vermittlung funding program of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. You can get an insight into the specific projects and digital strategies of the funded institutions in the film WEGE ZUR DIGITALSTRATEGIE - Das Programm "kultur.digital.vermittlung" 2022-24 (youtube.com).
