Restorer (m/f/d)
To strengthen our team, we are looking for a restorer (m/f/d) as part of a parental leave replacement at the earliest possible date, initially full-time with 40 hours per week, from 01.01.2027 limited until 22.09.2027 with 25 hours per week, pay group 8.
The Museum für Franken - Staatliches Museum für Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte in Würzburg has been a state museum under the auspices of the Free State of Bavaria since 01.01.2017. It is a central museum for Franconian art and cultural history with a section on the history of the city of Würzburg and has nationally important collections of painting, graphic art and sculpture as well as arts and crafts from early times to the present day. The museum, which is rich in tradition, is currently undergoing a phase of repositioning, which involves a general renovation of the Marienberg Fortress, a complex new concept and the relocation of the museum and its depots.
Your tasks:
- Helping to ensure suitable environmental conditions (climate, light, pollutants) for objects and entire collection complexes in exhibition and storage rooms (damage prevention)
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM) (prevention and pest control) throughout the museum building
- Assistance with scientific analyses, conservation, restoration, documentation
- Working with the database
- Inventorying the collection, recording condition
- Attaching inventory numbers to objects
- Location management
- Restoration support for loans, art transportation and presentations
Your requirements:
- Knowledge of preventive conservation as well as conservation and restoration from at least one of the following areas: Paintings, painted sculptures, furniture, wooden objects, paper, graphics, archival material
- Knowledge in the field of conservation, restoration and art technology as well as in the related fields of materials science and natural sciences as well as cultural studies and humanities
- Knowledge in the field of preventive conservation and in dealing with contaminated cultural assets
- Knowledge of image processing, mapping programs and working with the object database
- A high level of creativity, curiosity and openness in solving individual conservation and restoration problems, taking into account the general conditions of historical museum spaces and the fortress complex
- Ability to work in a team and social skills
- Strategic and structured work as well as a sense of responsibility

The employment relationship is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). My day-to-day work is very varied - every day I learn something new and gain exciting insights into the different areas of museum operations. For example, I manage booking inquiries, help develop new educational material for the museum and assist with guided tours and the vacation program.

Volunteering
For ten years now, the Museum für Franken has enjoyed the active support of a dedicated group of volunteers. These volunteers make the organization of festivals and larger events, as well as the work with children in museum education, possible in the first place. In addition, thanks to a number of further training measures, the volunteers are now real specialists in providing personal advice to museum visitors at the information desk.
