Museum enthusiasts, time travelers, castle lovers, grandparents, parents and children - a total of 6,103 visitors streamed through the gates of Marienberg Fortress on Sunday, September 7. The Museum für Franken and the Bavarian Palace Administration had invited visitors to the annual museum festival, the Museumsfest, there. "That's a new record," said Veronika Genslein, Deputy Director of the Museum für Franken, delighted with the high number of visitors. Last year, the museum festival attracted almost 3,250 guests.
The Deputy Director's conclusion: "The atmosphere was fantastic and the weather also played along on Sunday. We received great feedback from all sides." A varied program awaited guests in the two front courtyards of the castle from 10 am to 6 pm. Reenactment groups such as the Rotwelsche Haufen, the medieval dance group Samt und Seide and historical fencing with Thomas Hönle's troupe provided historical flair.
Visitors could find out more about the period around 1525 during the guided tours of the special exhibition "1525 - Franconia demands freedom*". The Würzburg Castle and Garden Administration offered guided tours of the castle as well as an information stand and large wooden games on the bulkhead flank of the fortress. Visitors were able to get hands-on with various painting and craft activities offered by the Museum für Franken. The museum team is satisfied: "We are delighted with how many people came to the fortress to experience history together and enjoy the day," says Genslein.
