Museum Festival 2026 on September 6
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Sunday, September 6, 2026, the Museum of Franconia, in collaboration with the Würzburg Castle and Garden Administration, invites you to the Museum Festival at the Marienberg Fortress. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can look forward to an exciting program for all ages!

Spread across two castle courtyards, numerous arts-and-crafts booths and hands-on stations offer the chance to step back in time. Rope-twisting, catapult-building, and easel painting are back again! You can playfully “conquer” a castle with a crossbow, and at the face-painting station, kids can transform themselves into princesses, dragons, or knights. Other program highlights include reenactments by the “Rotwelschen Haufen” and historical fencing demonstrations with Thomas Hönle. Exciting castle tours and courtly dances by the “Samt und Seide” dance group bring history to life. Centered around the theme of the special exhibition “Geht Grad° so? Climate in Lower Franconia,” there are creative upcycling workshops and craft stations, such as building insect hotels or colorful windmills. Museum educator Gesine Kleinwächter combines exciting experiments with storytelling. Whether young explorers or big castle fans—everyone can get hands-on here and experience the fortress in a whole new way!

The colorful day of adventure is rounded out by a variety of food stands.

Getting There:
Conquer the castle: The best way to reach the fortress is on foot.
Convenient alternative: From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a shuttle bus departs every half hour from the bus station via Talavera (stop “Versorgungsamt”) to the fortress’s bus parking lot. Return trips depart every half hour starting at 9:45 a.m. Last return departure: 1:45 p.m. Additionally, the WVV’s Kulturlinie 9 runs regularly to the “Festung” stop. 
Important note: Parking is very limited.

Erobert die Burg: Am besten gelangt man zu Fuß auf die Festung.

Shuttle-Bus ab Würzburg Hauptbahnhof
Bequeme Alternative: Von 9:30 Uhr bis 13:30 Uhr fährt jede halbe Stunde ein Shuttle-Bus ab dem Hauptbahnhof (ZOB) Bussteig 3 über die Talavera (Haltestelle "Versorgungsamt") auf den Busparkplatz der Festung. Zurück geht es jede halbe Stunde ab 9:45 Uhr. Letzte Abfahrt zurück: 13:45 Uhr. 

Kulturlinie 9
Regulär fährt die Kulturlinie 9 der WVV bis zur Haltestelle „Festung“.
