159 school classes visit the Museum of Franconia during the 2025–26 school year
When the 2025–26 school year ends in Bavaria on Friday, July 31, the Museum für Franken will also be looking back on a successful year.
From September 2025 through the summer break of 2026, a total of 159 school classes visited the museum. That averages out to three school classes per week—and that doesn’t even include the school breaks.
Veronika Genslein, deputy director of the Museum of Franconia, says of the young guests: “We’re delighted that schools are taking advantage of our programs and that we’re able to inspire children and young people to take an interest in culture and history.”
All types of schools were represented. Fifty-one elementary school classes and 108 secondary school classes participated in the museum’s educational programs. “It’s especially wonderful that we’re reaching students of all ages—from first grade all the way through high school graduation. It’s precisely this diversity that defines our educational work,” says Genslein.
“Fortress and Knights” Most Popular Guided Tour
The most frequently booked tour during the 2025–26 school year was “Fortress and Knights,” followed by “Life in the Middle Ages” and “Life in the Baroque Era.”
The museum is also a popular venue for children’s birthday parties: Over 100 celebrations took place during the past school year, where children ages five and up spent their special day with themes such as the Stone Age, treasure hunts, or princess parties.
The museum is open during summer vacation. Guided tours continue to be offered for after-school programs, tour groups, and families. Starting August 13, a public family tour will take place every Thursday during vacation at 2:30 p.m. A puzzle sheet is also available for independent exploration. On August 6, children ages 6 and up can participate in the free summer program “Between the Ice Age and the Heat Wave” accompanying the special exhibition “Geht Grad° so?”, sponsored by Frankenbund e.V. and focusing on the topic of climate.
