“Wunder für Franken” in Wunsiedel Canceled Due to Illness

The “Wunder für Franken” project in Wunsiedel cannot take place as planned through July 19.

Due to illness, it is no longer possible to carry out the project by the Museum of Franconia and artist Marc Haselbach within the planned timeframe.

Veronika Genslein, deputy director of the Museum für Franken and project coordinator, says: “It is extremely regrettable for us that we have to cut this project short—for the first time in its five-year history. Wunsiedel gave us a very warm welcome, and the enthusiastic response and interest from the local community touched us deeply.” Marc Haselbach had already received the first “Wunsiedel Wonders” for the temporary collection. “We thank everyone who has accompanied and supported the project here and ask for your understanding,” said Genslein.

“Wunder für Franken - Wonders of Franconia” had launched on June 10 in Wunsiedel. The Museum für Franken and Berlin-based artist Marc Haselbach had invited residents to bring personal mementos, curious objects, and special stories to the store at Ludwigstraße 33. There, Marc Haselbach had opened his temporary chamber of wonders, where he collected the objects along with the personal stories and memories of Wunsiedel residents. The objects and their stories will still be documented for the museum’s digital archive before they are returned to their owners. The planned public presentation on “Day of Wonders” on July 19 will not take place.

“Wonders for Franconia” is a traveling project that tours Lower, Middle, and Upper Franconia during the renovation of the Marienberg Fortress. Following stops in previous years in Ochsenfurt, Kronach, Weißenburg, and Hammelburg, Wunsiedel served as the fifth stop.

Further information about the project, as well as the “wonders” collected so far, can be viewed online in the digital collection of the Museum für Franken.
