Children create a tour of selected exhibits
Project for kids
Under the direction of Gesine Kleinwächter, the project about children guiding tours in the museum established a partnership between the Museum of Franconia and the Ernst-Keil Elementary School in Höchberg.
The goal of the project is for children to develop a guided tour of selected museum pieces and then present it independently in the museum. After selecting the objects, the fourth-grade students received an introduction to the museum and informational materials from museum educator Gesine Kleinwächter.
Afterward, the children worked in small groups to independently research the various museum objects and artists. They explored techniques such as paint production or delved into various arts and crafts: sculpture, painting—or they became experts on the foreign culture of Stone Age people. All of this went extremely well thanks to the dedicated support of their teachers at school. Afterward, they returned to the museum—and practiced presenting, explaining, and speaking freely in front of the selected objects. To make this even more successful, visual aids from the museum’s educational program were provided as “tools.”
At the end of the project, the students each guided a different class through the museum and presented their respective museum objects with great enthusiasm and fun.
In the end, everyone earned high praise and a real museum certificate!
