The Würzburg Fortress
The heartbeat of a building site
Now in the ARD media library: A team from Bayerischer Rundfunk accompanied the construction work on the Würzburg fortress for two years.
Marienberg Fortress is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The Museum of Franconia is to move into the front part of the Würzburg landmark. It is probably the largest renovation project in the history of the Bavarian Palace Administration. A team from Bayerischer Rundfunk accompanied the construction work on the Würzburg fortress for two years. The result is a 45-minute documentary in German that provides very different insights into the structural changes: "The Würzburg Fortress - Heartbeat of a Construction Site". Site manager Sebastian Baumeister and castellan Stephan Jüngling show their perspective.
Susanne Wortmann also lets the filmmakers look over her shoulder. The conservator at the Museum für Franken is responsible for moving thousands of exhibits, which have to be individually packed. The refurbishment will give the museum new exhibition space and storage facilities. But before the valuable objects can be moved there, the museum is using the time to get rid of pests and gain more knowledge about special exhibits such as the Kilian banner.
"The Würzburg Fortress - Heartbeat of a Construction Site" can be seen on BR television on November 10 at 9:00 pm and November 16 at 1:15 pm.
The film is available in the ARD Mediathek from November 8th.
