"We are creating a real magnet for visitors"
Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte assumes responsibility - management change from October 1 - Blume: "We are going full throttle for the Museum für Franken! It is a key cultural policy project for us in northern Bavaria."
Press release no. 85 from 03.10.2025 of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts:
MUNICH: "The Museum für Franken in Würzburg has a new management structure: the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte has taken over responsibility for the museum and the implementation of the new permanent exhibition from October 1." Art Minister Markus Blume made the announcement today in Munich: "We are going full throttle for the Museum für Franken! It is a key cultural policy project for us in northern Bavaria. We want to create a museum for the whole of Franconia, a real visitor magnet that will inspire visitors from Franconia and beyond. To achieve this, we need the best minds and the right spirit. With the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte on board, we have both," says Blume.
Dr. Loibl and experienced staff from the HdBG will work together with the existing team at the Museum für Franken, focusing on the content concept of the exhibition. In addition, district heritage curator Prof. Günter Dippold has been recruited to provide scientific advice on the project. Blume emphasized: "It is important to me that we make the best possible use of the seven years until the opening. The Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte (House of Bavarian History) showed with its highly acclaimed Franconian exhibition in Ansbach a few years ago that it can present the history and cultural identity of the Franconians in a vivid and highly entertaining way. Dr. Loibl also has extensive experience with large, new museum projects - especially with regard to working with architects and planners."
Dr. Loibl, Director of the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte, added: "Synergy is the keyword. With our know-how from numerous projects, we will do our utmost to promote the Museum für Franken. In addition to sustainability, our museum in Regensburg stands for contemporary museum education, as currently demonstrated by the escape games that have been fully booked for months. Museum marketing is our specialty - some of this can be transferred to Würzburg. We want to establish the Museum für Franken as another visitor magnet in Würzburg. This will only be possible with an experience-oriented museum presentation.
The Museum für Franken in Würzburg at Marienberg Fortress is a central museum for Franconian art and cultural history. Following the general renovation of Marienberg Fortress, the museum, which is currently housed in the Zeughaus, is to move into the core castle with a new permanent exhibition covering around 4,000 m². As part of the restructuring, the director of the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte, Dr. Richard Loibl, will temporarily take over the management of the Museum für Franken on a part-time basis. The future management structure will be decided at a later date. The previous director, Jörg Meißner, is moving to a new position of responsibility in the state museum system. Blume thanked Jörg Meißner and his predecessor Prof. Schneider for their successful groundwork.
