Masterpieces of the Riemenschneider period
from the Liebieghaus Sculpture Collection
November 12, 2016 to February 12, 2017
From mid-November, visitors to the Museum für Franken were able to view a "small but fine", spectacular and extremely high-quality exhibition:
The internationally renowned Liebieghaus in Frankfurt loaned "Masterpieces of the Riemenschneider period" from its world-famous sculpture collection, including works by Hans Multscher, Michel Erhart, Daniel Mauch and Hans Leinberger, to name just a few well-known sculptors. However, works in which the executing masters have remained anonymous are in no way inferior to these works, as a seated Madonna from the Upper Rhine with an original version or the reliefs for the Schlüsselfelde altar vividly demonstrate.
A total of 20 sculptures will be on display. They enable a direct comparison of the works of Tilman Riemenschneider preserved in the Museum für Franken with the works of his contemporaries. A unique museum cooperation and a unique opportunity that no fan of the Middle Ages and Riemenschneider should miss!
