The garden in art
Art in the garden
June 12 to November 14, 2018
Gardens have always been created not only for the cultivation of trees, flowers, fruit and vegetables, but also for edification. The productive forces of nature and man come together in the garden.
Vegetable growth and artistic design merge into various garden forms, ranging from the small, walled private garden to the geometrically designed garden with enclosed areas to the artistically designed landscape.
The garden as a place of longing is seen as a paradise, as the seat of the gods, as a rural idyll, as a place of retreat and emotion. The various garden designs illustrate the changing zeitgeist and tastes. They also provide information about man's relationship with nature and the importance he attached to it.
The collections of the Museum für Franken contain numerous works that illustrate the changing relationship between man and nature. The two meet in art - and man always remains behind in the hope of being just as productive as nature.
On the occasion of the State Garden Show in Würzburg, seven "pavilions" integrated into the museum tour are dedicated to the themes of "Gods in the Garden", "Discovering the Landscape""Paradise Garden", "Art and Nature", "Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim as a Garden Fanatic", "The Rural Idyll", "The Garden as a Romantic Place". In addition, the special exhibition room will feature magnificent faiences on the theme of gardens and plants. This is how "garden and art" merge: People captured their longing in works of art, the beauty of which we can still enjoy today.
