Die Schönbornfranken
From Franconia to Transcarpathia
From July 22 to October 2, the Museum für Franken is showing the banner exhibition "Die Schönbornfranken - Von Franken nach Transkarpatien" (The Schönborn Franconians - From Franconia to Transcarpathia) by the Stiftung Verbundenheit mit den Deutschen im Ausland (Foundation for Connections with Germans Abroad) in the Schönbornhalle at Marienberg Fortress:
The German minority in Ukraine is geographically spread across the entire country. In the westernmost part of the country, the region of Transcarpathia (Carpathian Ukraine, Ukrainian: Zakarpattya), they live mainly around the cities of Uzhgorod and Mukachevo. Transcarpathia, which for centuries has been shaped by Austrian, Hungarian, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian and German influences, is today a region of Europe enriched with a very diverse multicultural heritage. Immigrants from German areas, people from Mainfranken, who made their way to what was then Upper Hungary over 250 years ago, also found a new home in today's Transcarpathia - the Schönbornfranken.
