Finissage of the exhibition "1525 - Franconia demands freedom*"
on February 22, 2026 from 11 am

In cooperation with the Museum für Franken and Dr. Pia Beckmann's democracy initiative pics4peace e.V., pupils of the Waldorf School Würzburg have intensively dealt with the questions of democracy, peace and social commitment: What do you take to the streets for? What do you raise your voice for? What do you fight for? The result is an impressive program of music, dance, language, film and visual art.

The starting point for the pupils' artistic works and contributions are the central questions of the special exhibition "1525 - Franconia demands freedom", which has been on display at the Museum für Franken since April 2025.

The young participants take up impulses from the exhibition - including questions about the motives of the rebels in the Peasants' War in Franconia - and transfer them to their own lives. In this way, the demands of 1525 are seen as an impetus to reflect on what people will stand up for, protest and take responsibility for in 2026.

Visitors can expect a varied stage program with eurythmy, percussion, singing, a cappella contributions and lyrical impulses. In terms of content, the performances will address topics such as freedom, women's rights, war, exclusion and hope - powerful, touching and contemporary.

The program is complemented by an artistic presentation that will be on display from 13.02.2026 to 22.02.2026 during the opening hours of the Museum für Franken (except on 17.02.2026 - Shrove Tuesday). Videos, sculptures, graffiti works and paintings show the young people's engagement with current social conflicts from different perspectives.

The finissage on Sunday, 22.02.2026, will also focus on dialog:

As part of the #endlichankommen project, pics4peace asked over 100 people the same 20 questions: among other things, what their state of mind is, what they would stand up for today, what fears and wishes they have.

Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dieter Kulke, students from the Master's degree course in Social Work at the THWS examined these interviews scientifically and also conducted and evaluated further qualitative interviews. They vividly present their findings, show which values people are prepared to do something about today and provide recommendations for action for society and politics.

An open discussion round will give guests the opportunity to discuss with representatives from politics, museums and society.

After the program, drinks and snacks will ensure that visitors can reflect on their impressions of the exhibition and the contributions in a relaxed atmosphere. The event, which will take place in the Schönborn- und Kelterhalle of the Museum für Franken at Marienberg Fortress, is expected to end at 1.00 pm.

The finissage is intended as a lively conclusion to the exhibition - and as a strong sign of how committed young people are to taking responsibility for democracy and the society in which they live.
