The Museum
The former Mainfränkisches Museum was originally an institution under the city of Würzburg. On 1 January 2003, its legal status was changed to allow it to be jointly funded by Würzburg and the Unterfränkische Kulturstiftung, a cultural foundation in Lower Franconia.
Building on its local roots, the Museum für Franken has national and international appeal. We want to use our collection to shine a light on Franconian culture and history and discuss current social issues. Focussing on the visitors is a basic principle of our work. Therefore, in addition to collecting, preserving and researching, communication plays a special role. We complement our traditional presentations with interactive family exhibitions, events and digital programmes. It is important to us to develop the museum further, to open it up and to expand it into the digital space. The Museum für Franken aims to make an important contribution for people in the city and the region to identify with Franconia and Würzburg and to introduce visitors from far and wide to Franconia’s cultural history.
